Position Overview
The Technical Authority (Process) is responsible for safeguarding the technical integrity of Dana Petroleum UK Operated Assets. As a recognised Subject Matter Expert (SME), the role provides technical leadership to ensure risks associated with Major Accident Hazards (MAHs) are fully understood and effectively managed. The Technical Authority supports the company's drive for technical excellence by setting standards, providing independent assurance, introducing appropriate technologies and procedural improvements, and delivering practical, impartial technical guidance to maintain safe, environmentally responsible, and sustainable operations.
This role has the following responsibilities and outputs:
- Safeguard the technical integrity of Dana Petroleum UK Operated Assets.
- Ensure risks associated with Major Accident Hazards (MAHs) are effectively understood and managed.
- Act as the recognised Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Process discipline.
- Provide independent and impartial feedback on asset integrity status and communicate concerns to Asset Management.
- Deliver practical technical advice while constructively challenging strategies and proposed solutions where appropriate.
- Set performance standards and assurance requirements for Safety and Environmental Critical Elements (SECEs).
- Undertake formal technical assessments of SECE performance and optimise maintenance and assurance strategies.
- Develop and maintain technical standards for safety-critical and non-safety-critical systems.
- Provide visible technical leadership through offshore assessments and asset visits.
- Support Technical Authorities across other disciplines where performance standards overlap.
- Manage technical procedures, standards, specifications, deviations and technical queries.
- Own assigned technical documentation within the One Dana Management System (ODMS).
- Support Operational Risk Assessments (ORAs), deferral approvals and verification activities for assigned SECEs.
- Ensure maintenance strategies are developed and maintained to achieve required asset performance.
- Provide technical guidance to onshore engineering teams and offshore operations.
- Support Engineering Management of Change (MOC) activities and modification projects.
- Commission, review and approve technical studies completed by external consultants.
- Support or lead investigations into incidents and near misses relevant to the Process discipline.
- Participate in risk assessments and formal safety studies including HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA and QRA.
- Support regulator inspections and ensure associated actions are completed.
- Approve process flow diagrams, P&IDs, heat and mass balances, PSV registers, hazardous area drawings and process Cause & Effect updates.
- Maintain authority for process and utility system operating manuals, recertification procedures and related process integrity documentation.
- Promote a safe workplace, environmental protection and compliance with Dana HSE, Risk Management and Major Hazard policies.
- Ensure compliance with UK legislation, engineering standards, industry best practice and company management systems.
Competence Requirements
- Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status with an appropriate engineering institution and/or MSc in Risk and Reliability.
- Proven track record with more than 25 years' experience within the oil and gas industry.
- Previous experience in a Technical Authority or similar senior technical role.
- Demonstrable experience developing innovative technical and engineering solutions.
- Strong knowledge of process engineering and associated engineering disciplines.
- Experience with engineering software, Maximo, Excel and other technical IT systems.
- Thorough understanding of UK oil and gas regulations and industry standards.
- Experience working with HSE, DESNZ/BEIS and relevant industry workgroups.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- Strong commercial awareness, professional judgement and ethical standards.
